Bike Week May 23-26

Bike week arrives in May! Remember to return your child's waivers which came home in their backpack - your child cannot participate without these completed.  If you are short a bike or a helmet, let your class rep know and we will try to arrange to get you one.

We need ONE parent volunteer!

Our 2017-18 PAC Executive is still looking for ONE more Fundraising Co-ordinator to sit on the Exec team. We have one amazing parent volunteer, but she needs a partner in crime. We must have someone step up before our June 6th meeting.

Historically, these two parent volunteers have coordinated 1-2 events per year (usually Parent Social in late Fall plus a Spring Event), plus attend the HPAC & Exec meetings. Want to switch things up next year and do something else instead? Amazing! You get to decide how to raise some funds for out school. It could be as simple as a cheque drive! No experience needed!

Kilometer Club

Friday Apr 21 to Friday May 26

Kilometer Club is open to all students K-7 and is held at the school 8:05am to 8:35am Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Km Club will not run in rainy weather.

How it works: Students run laps around our school gravel field. 1 Km equals roughly 3 laps around the field.

As the students complete one lap they receive a ‘specially marked’ popsicle stick. When they have completed 3 laps they may trade in their popsicle sticks for a KM strip.

Students will be rewarded with a special ribbon for every 25 kms they complete up to 200 kms.

If your child wishes to run during “off” times (ie. evenings, weekends) those kilometres WILL count towards their Km Club total but require a signed note from a parent confirming the amount your child ran.

Highlands Spring Fair

Friday June 9th 5-8pm

Advanced Fun Pass & BBQ order forms are coming home the week of May 15th in your kids back packs. Click here for more information >

Glass jars -- Wondering why we've asked you to collect glass mason jars?? We will be selling "Jolly Jars" at this years spring fair. This is an activity where students decorate the outside of a jar, then fill the inside with desirable items that kids would love to have, eat or play with (no used items please). We'll collect the jars and sell them for $4 each at the Spring Fair.

Kids Clothing Sale -- Starting May 23rd you can drop off your gently-used kids summer gear & clothing (sandals, water shoes, swimsuits, shorts, shirts, dresses...) in a marked bin by the main entrance. Make sure your family name is on the bag so we can credit you with your buying discount at the Spring Fair! You can also drop off bags to 3636 Glenview Crescent. Any questions, contact karynm@gmail.com

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Lunch

Each year, Highlands parents show thanks to our great teachers & staff with an Appreciation Lunch.  There is an online google docs sign-up sheet outlining two ways to help:

1) Provide food for the event (food drop off between 8:20 - 9:00 am on THURSDAY,  June 15th in the staff room)

2) Volunteer to help with clean-up

Please consider contributing food or your time.  For more information, contact event coordinators Laura Clarke laura@teamclarke.com; or Marnie Beaton marniebeaton123@gmail.com

Scholastic Book Fair

May 29 - June 1

This is a great chance to get some summer reading material and all proceeds go to our school library so it will be well stocked with fresh books in the fall.

As usual we need a fair number of VOLUNTEERS to make this happen but the shifts are brief and the work is easy.  We are looking for volunteers for each of the following time slots:

Mon:  8:30-9:00am (setup), 12:15-1:00pm (intermediates), 2:55-3:45pm

Tue:  8:30-9:00am (setup), 12:15-1:00pm (primaries),  2:55-3:45pm

Wed:  8:30-9:00am (setup), 12:15-1:00pm (intermediates)

Tue:  8:30-9:00am (setup), 12:15-1:00pm (primaries),  2:55-3:45pm (help pack up)

If you can work one or more of these shifts, please contact Christina Carrick (christina@carrick-lee.net).
